The History Behind Slot Machines

Casino games have been out there for a long while (and some of them have been played for centuries). While some go out of fashion and people lose the interest in playing them, there are also casino games that always appear to be timelessly fascinating. Slot machine games are among these and if you have ever played them, you know how addictively fun and enjoyable they can be. Furthermore, the fact that you can win actual money by playing them makes them even more attractive.

While slot machine games are known to many, many people out there, it is not many of you that know the history behind them. If you have ever thought that slot machine games are a relatively new invention, then think again. The first slot machine appeared at the end of the 19th century and its rules were based on none other than the king of all casino games: Poker. Obviously, the machine was quite rudimentary and there was no special mechanism about it. Furthermore, it had no automatic paying system and in most of the cases, the winnings were not even actual money, but goods that you could consume in the bar (for instance, a pair of dames could bring you one beer, and so on).

It wasn’t long before the actual slot machine was invented in the United States. As a matter of fact, it was a matter of years until Charles Frey managed to come up with a system that is very similar to the slot machines we use today. These ones paid the winners actual money and their popularity increased as the years went by.

Ever since then, many variations on the classic slot machine have been brought on the market. Nowadays, you can even play slot machine games online, from the comfort of your own home and more and more people are attracted towards this form of casino gaming.
